No Race is too small for a report. Setanta Tri Club staged yet again another faultless race. The club had to really pull together for marshals as a strong core of the lads(and lassies) were off for some warm weather training(and gossiping!!..;-).. ) We have to thank Cuchulainn CC as they arrived in numbers too.

This race was a duathlon on the sportsmans course consisting of 3k run – 18k bike and a repeat of the run! Sure what else would you be at on a Sunday morning! I was eager to race but unsure how the body would be after Abu Dhabi. I didnt really do a whole lot during the week, couple of light runs and bike rides was the height of it. It was nice to wear the club colours too.

I need some speed work after the long slog build for Abu and that’s what I got. BANG!! Instantly your running at 2K pace!! After 1k it was like  someone threw a grenade in the group because bodies were everywhere. I felt reasonably comfortable-tried my best not to go all out but that’s easier said than done. I felt I paced it right and got into transition in 2nd place. I put the hammer down on the bike right from the off and hoped to get a good size lead should my legs explode on the second run . I love duathlons because of the intensitiy of them. You really do leave it all out on the course!. Paul Carroll didn’t show up and I couldn’t hide my excitement over that!! I really didn’t fancy a war to the finish!. He had an unbelievable result across the water the day before at the National Uk Duathlon Champs where he finished 2nd. I had a good lead at 1.5 laps and the race was on for podium as the guys behind really dueled it out. I always say its the best course on the circuit. You know you’ll get a competitive race at the Sportsmans(and a feed after!!) I got to the line first and happy with my performance.

It was great to have the full compliment of the family there. Rían even beat me to the line.  Thank you to the Sportsmans for the Soup and sarnies.
